Corpses, Cadavers and Catalogues

February 27, 2016

Corpses, Cadavers and Catalogues: The Mobilities of Dead Bodies and Body Parts, Past and Present is an interdiscplinary seminar happening in May 17-18, 2016 in London and I have the pleasure to be one of the speakers!

CCC aims to "bring together museum professionals and academics to foster a productive dialogue on the movement of the dead body and the social, ethical and political challenges it presents. In contrast to the breadth of current research on the movement of the living, the subject of the dead body will be used to bridge the divide between the work of museum professionals and academics to promote the museum as a site for research, and develop new connections and networks."

I am speaking in the afternoon of Tuesday, May 17th in the 4th session:

Session 4- Disposal and Acquisition

  • Lisa Wynne Smith (University of Essex)- Hans Sloane’s Human Fossils

  • Jolien Gijbels (University of Leuven)The disposal of dissected corpses in late nineteenth-century Belgium

  • Evi Numen (Mutter Museum, Philadelphia)- In the Margins: How Physicians, Resurrectionists and Collectors evaded the Law in 19th Century Philadelphia

Registration is now open till May 6th and spots are limited, so reserve your spots now
I'm very much looking forward to this - it is slated to be a captivating conference and it's a honor to be part of it.
